They are three main sources of blessings in the Bible. It is important to remember that in Genesis chapter 1 when God makes Adam he speaks a five-fold blessing over mankind : be fruitful, multiply, subdue, replenish and have dominion. Meaning we were born blessed. Therefore we only need to activate the blessings.
Today I look at three sources of blessings and how to activate them.
1. God is The Primary Source of All Blessings: He is the ultimate blessing and the ultimate blessed. Deuteronomy 8:17&18 says do not be proud after you have succeeded because he is the Lord your God who gives you the ability to make wealth. Haggai 2:8 all silver and gold belongs to the Lord,he the owner of everything. How do we activate Gods blessings?
a. Obedience – Obeying the instructions of God and his directions will enable you to be at a place of receiving. Deuteronomy 28:1-13 talks about the blessings we activate from obedience.
b. Awareness – Perspective of God is also very key. Knowing God is powerful, knowing what you mean to the Lord and being aware that God is good all the time. Nahum 1:7
c. Giving – this activates the promises of God. When we give, we honor God for who he is and it indicates that we trust him with our current blessings and also we recognize he is the ultimate source of blessings. Giving, tests God’s promises as in Malachi 3:10
d. Thanksgiving – This is an attitude of faith, it is an attitude of memory in that it reminds us that God is faithful and we appreciate that even though I am not where I want to be I am not where I used to be.
2. Parents: These are the Lord’s representatives on earth according to Ephesians 6:1-3. Parents are the first custodians of God’s blessings on earth, the unfortunate thing is that most parents die having not blessed their children and most children do not know the importance of getting the blessings from their parents. How to activate parents blessings:
a. Obedience – It does not matter what type of parent you have. The Bible does not give a disclaimer on obedience but it gives a reward for obedience. Obeying parents is an absolute biblical mandate.
b. Respect – Sirach 3:3-5 summarizes this by saying when we respect our parents, it is a seed because our children will also respect us and secondly respecting our parents opens a door to earn great wealth.
c. Honor – This is a great blessing principal. Anything we honor we attract it’s favor, anyone we honor we attract there favor. Sirach 3:6-9. You obey God by honoring your parents meaning you tap double blessings sources at a go. Secondly verse 8 says when you honor your parents you receive their blessings and the blessings of a parent give strength to their children’s home.
d. Caring – Why we abandon our parents at their old ages is still a mystery and a big one because if there is something that God does not forget it is kindness shown to parents Sirach 3:12-14.
3. Spiritual Leaders: These are the people that the Lord has ordained as our shepherds in the form of your priest, bishop, pastors, your spiritual father or director. These are the people we look up to for spiritual guidance and nourishment. They are conduits of Gods blessing in our lives. How we activate blessings from them is:
a. Kindness – They are also human, 1Kings 17:15&22 the widow activates a blessing of abundance in her life by showing kindness to Elijah.
b. Obedience – At times a simple instruction or advise or direction from this person can be the solution to all your problems. The miracle of wine in Cana would never have happened if they had not obeyed Jesus, 2Kings 13:14.
c. Submit – Never go to war with a spiritual leader. With wisdom and love speak your mind but never confront nor fight with a spiritual leader. Numbers 16:28-32.
d. Bless Them – It will go a long way if we bless the men of God in our lives. The barren shunamite woman activated a blessing in her life by simply being a blessing to the prophet Elisha. Being a blessing to a man of God can open a door you never knew about. Bless the man of God and blessings will be activated in your life.
