Three Fundamental Truths about Parenting.

  1. Marriage precedes children:

-Two things are more important than children: God and your marriage.

-If your marriage is not functioning well, you become overly needy and may turn to your children to meet your emotional/companionship needs. Children were not designed to meet our needs, they do not have the capacity to supply an adult’s needs.

-When your children see you happy they are happy, your children’s security comes from our own security. What atmosphere do you set around your children?

  1. Unity is essential:

-Never let your children divide you as parents. Share the responsibility of discipline between the two of you in order to maintain the child’s affection towards both parents.

-Always speak words of honor about your spouse in front of your children.

-Seek external help. In case of a stale mate where you are unable to solve things that involve your children, do not hesitate to get assistance from a person you trust and respect to mediate between all parties.

  1. Parenting takes faith:

-Always pray for your children.

-Lay hands on them and bless them, do not die before you affirm and speak into their greatness – that they can achieve and be better than you.

-Ask God how to change you, that you may have a life-long positive impact upon them. The prayers you make must change you first, before they change your spouse or your children.
