It all starts in Genesis chapter 2 when God created Adam. He takes Adam and puts him in Eden, before he gave him or Eve something to do, God gave them fellowship. It is in fellowship that Adam was able to get the anointing he needed to fulfill God’s mandate. After His presence, the next thing that the Lord gives is responsibility. The only way a father can succeed in his responsibilities is if he is in the presence of God. Anointing is only given in the presence of God and it is simply a spiritual enabling to do a particular task. A man is supposed to be the Priest, Prophet and King, all these are anointing based and only found in the presence of the Lord. As a priest he represents his family to God, as Prophet he presents God to his family, and as King he leads his family according to God’s plan. The only way a father can be effective in his office of Kingship, Priesthood and the Prophetic, is if he is always in intimate connection with his CEO.

Five Reasons why Fathers must pray:

1. To Understand His Assignment: This is important for the leadership and guidance role to be played in the family. Understanding his assignment helps the father know the vision and the direction of the family. Where there is no vision, men perish; Proverbs 29:18.

2. To Know How To War In The Spirit For His Family: Psalms 144:1, you train my hands for battle.

3. For The Lord’s Covering: If a father yields himself to the leadership of the Father then in turn he will have brought his whole family to be covered by the lord. Joshua 24:15 …as for me and my house, we shall serve the Lord.

4. That The Lord May Give Him The Strength: To carry his family by helping him to overcome his weaknesses.

5. He Will End The Cycle of Fatherlessness: In constant prayer, a man will learn from God how to be a father. The Hebrew word for father is ‘Abba’ and it means source, sustainer, foundation and nourisher – what wonderful qualities for every earthly father to possess!

Let us strive on, in relentless pursuit of our Heavenly Father that in connecting with Him daily we may be made more like Him.
